ABOUT PIP
Parent Involvement Program, Inc. (PIP) is a 501c3, private, non-profit organization
that works with school administrators, staff, the business community and outside
resources. PIP develops, funds and executes math, science and technology programs.
We create fun and exciting experiences to entice students and families to get
involved. Severe budget cuts have depleted many of our country’s school
resources. PIP encourages parent involvement in our activities, so parents
can better understand these subjects, to help with homework and nurture their
children in these important disciplines.
PIP also empowers girls in our developing program offerings. We hope to help
bridge the gap for girls in math, science and technology. Please join us in
spreading our mission
In 1999, Dr. Bill Kendall, Director of Math and Technology for the Braintree
Public Schools, was awarded a 3-year grant from the Department of Education and
the National Science Foundation to bring a lead parent to run a group called
Massachusetts Parent Involvement Project. The purpose was to help parents advocate
for math, science and technology reform in their school system and community.
Bev Kenny was the first lead parent of Mass PIP in Braintree. Bev brought
us the 4th grade MCAS Preparation and Strategies Program taught by parents
and trips to the Science and Children's Museums. Nancy Daly headed PIP in year
two, delighting us with her Monthly Family Math Challenges and bringing various
math and science entertainers to the schools.
In 2001, Julie McKinney ran PIP the final year of the grant. Julie, and her
husband Jack, funded the next 2 years of PIP and in 2003 made Parent Involvement
Program, Inc. a 501c3, private, non-profit organization.
We thank everyone for their support and look forward to growing this wonderful
venture.
